“Feed your brain” memo
Team,
R.D. Cumming once said that “a good book has no ending.” It’s true. What you can learn from a good book can change your life forever.
In our experience, even a single sentence can be transformational. We have always had a voracious appetite for reading and have placed a very high value on books. From technical references, we’ve found golden nuggets that have saved us hours on the clock. From books on philosophy and science, we’ve learned how to think about problems in new ways and how to look upon this amazing universe with a renewed sense of reverence. From self-help books, we’ve learned powerful strategies for improving both our personal and professional lives. In fictions, we’ve lost ourselves for days without an ounce of regret for the loss of those delicious hours. The partners of our great company assert, and I’m sure you will agree:
Books are wonderful, beautiful things that enrich and enhance the quality of living.
We therefor believe that investing in the knowledge and joy that can come of books is unquestionably sound and we want to make sure you have the opportunity to do so. If you find a book that you think would be good, then get it, devour it, and then put it on the shelf for the rest of the team. The easiest thing to do is just put in a request to Agent 12 and she will procure it for you. You do not have to choose only technical references. A great novel could both entertain you and teach you about the English or Spanish language. Books like “The Power of Focus” or “Getting Things Done” can help you manage stress while improving productivity. Books about science, philosophy, and religion can mature your mind and give you greater perspective for any situation. Obtain, enjoy, and share the books you want.
The team at Google Books announced Thursday that it had counted nearly 130 million printed volumes produced by the world so far (throughout all of history), so… you better get busy! But seriously, we can’t actually afford 130 million books, so be reasonable.

With that note, we close by reminding you of one of our company values, which we believe this policy helps to serve:
“We Value People – Our Customers and Our Own.
We value and respect the people that we work for and with. We constantly remind ourselves that in the midst of our technology, humans are the key. We may be a bunch of technology geeks, but we never lose sight of the fact that it exists to serve people. We do our work to to foster human relationships and to enrich human lives. We pride ourselves on understanding the human condition and being empathetic to everyone’s situation in life and in the workplace. We revere our clients and employees as friends and family and we do not see any reason it should be otherwise.“
Delivered on behalf of the Partners.
